Old Stuff 31

This is a photo of the disused Ben Bullen railway station, taken in 2009.  It looks similar today but has been boarded up a bit more.

There are number of disused stations along this track but this one is most noticeable because the highway does a sharp turn across the tracks here.

  1. These old buildings are photogenic but it would be nice to see them brought back to life.

    1. I would love to see this track busy again with a regular passenger train to Mudgee. At the moment it is used by an occasional tourist train to Kandos-Rylstone. At the time this photo was taken there was a daily cement train from Kandos and coal trains from Charbon but both of those operations have closed down. Perhaps there are still coal trains because the are
some active coal mines further down the track towards Lithgow.

  2. If only those old buildings could speak :-) The photo is great.

    1. There is not much of a town around here. I doubt there would have been many passengers even in its heyday. Possibly freight.

  3. Great photo. Not sure where Ben Bullen is.

    1. Ben Bullen is on the road between Lithgow and Mudgee. There is no town there now just some old buildings. One day take the drive to Mudgee. It is worth it. Or perhaps take the Trainlink bus.

  4. Wouldn't it be interesting to be able to peek back in time to see what sort of people would be waiting here for the train to come in. Country folk heading into the city ?

    1. Country folk heading to the city or further inland. Or loading freight.

  5. I wonder if it's a bit too late to do something with the building.

    1. Not too late. That photo was taken 10 years ago and it is in no worse condition today. In fact it has been boarded up more to preserve it. The old stations are available for lease as cafes or galleries for example but there is no surrounding town in this case.

    1. Back in those days I took a lot more time with my photographs. I usually just snap these days.

  7. I love such old buildings. Back then we sneaked inside, in one (in a village) we found old pans and pots and even a pair of trousers! Did you peek inside?

    1. Yes we did back in 2009. There was the old ticket window and a fireplace in the waiting room. It is now boarded up so people can’t get in.
