Ruins

@Stratford School Ruin, Lawson

After showing the Blast Furnace ruins in Lithgow on Friday I thought I would dig into my photo archive and show you our very own ruin in Lawson.

The tower is from an old guest house that later became the Stratford Girls School and subsequently used for other purposes until a fire destroyed the building in the 1980s. The ruin has been secured and is a local landmark, but the grounds are just a tangle.

I was interested to discover an elderly lady at our church in Kandos was a boarder at the Stratford Girls School - shown in its original state below.

Reflection:
Matthew 6:19-20 New International Version (NIV)
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."

    1. Yes I guess it was and lives on in some people’s memories, otherwise there is not a lot of sense keeping the remnant.

  4. Always love seeing the old black and white photos as a comparison. It was a fine looking building back then, what a shame about the fire, it might have been preserved if not for that ✨

    1. There were any number of grand old hotels and guest houses in the mountains which were burnt down or demolished. This one seemed to have passed the “demolished” date so there is a good chance it would have lived on.
