Satin Bower Bird

Male Satin Bower Bird

Back in garden at home the Bower Bird has been busy arranging his bower. It also looks like he is considering a move.  There is now a second bower just a little further down the path but he has not decorated it with any of his wonderful blue collection yet.

  1. On an outing recently, at Cunninghams Gap, I watched a Bower Bird find a piece of blue on the ground and swiftly take it away. They must be busy nesting as on a previous visit many gathered as we enjoyed our coffee break.

    1. Not sure about nesting yet though he is certainly trying to woo the ladies with his bower but he seems to do that all year round.

  2. The Satin Bowerbirds are always visiting my garden to have a splash in my birdbath. I like the glossy blue/black coat of the male birds and their bright blue eyes. I have never seen their bowers.

    1. I too love their inky coat and blue eyes and the lovely green of the ladies and immature males. It apparantely takes the males 7 years to get their blue feathers.

If the birds are in your garden there may be a bower nearby. They like shady spots with foliage around them. Our bird was in the neighbours yard for many years, when it was disturbed for garden work he decided to move over to our side of the fence.
