Silvereye
I was keen to get a Saturday bird and was pleased to see Silvereyes in Burnbrae garden this morning but was not fast enough with my camera. Out at Rose Orchard Haus this afternoon I found some here too and with a bit of patience snapped one.
I also captured this small bird but I don't know what it is. Can anybody help me?

Not 100% sure Joan Elizabeth but it could be a Willy Wagtail, the eyebrow looks familiar ✨ Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteNot a willy wagtail. We see them quite a lot here and their tail sticks up. This one is longish but down.
DeleteIt is a grey fantail. Thanks for the hint that got me started. I was caught out because I only saw him briefly and he didn’t have his tail up.
DeleteYour birds are very different from those in the northern hemisphere. Up here the second one looks a little like what we'd call a towhee but not enough to even pretend they're related. I'm not a birder but I haven't seen anything that looks much like your silvereye. They're both beautiful. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteI agree the birds are very different, I love to see the northern hemisphere birds that pop up in blogs.
DeleteNicely caught on camera! Well done! My most used book in this place is "The Field Guide to Birds of Australia". A great book to identify our beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteI have that book too at my mountain home and it is great. But I don't have a copy when I am in Kandos so I have to use a mobile phone app which is not quite as good.
