Spring Flowers

David Jones Spring Flower Show 2018
Spring has arrived.  There is still not much happening in our gardens but at David Jones city store their magnificent annual spring flower show is in full swing.  I took it in while we were in the city for a medical appointment yesterday.

There were lots of people like me absorbing their beauty and snapping photos to the tinkling notes of the piano.

  1. When I worked in the city I always loved going to David Jones for the annual Spring flower show and listening to the beautiful music being played on the grand piano. Glad to hear the tradition is still being carried on.

    1. Yes it is still going. It is the 30th year the floral designer George Lowe has done it. The show started in the 1940s so a very long tradition.

  2. I did get a little excited when I saw a couple of my poppies make an appearance this week Joan Elizabeth 😀 Beautiful David Jones display, must check when I'm in the city next to see if our DJ does the same. Meanwhile it's pouring with rain outside right now 😊

    1. I think it is a tradition only in th Sydney store. I am worried there is still no sign of spring bulbs in my Kandos garden (other than the tulips) and I have checked the dates on my photos and last year they were all out at this time. I am wondering if it is the drought (just a sprinkle of rain here). Though it could be the very late start we had for winter (the tulips were chilled in the fridge). I am still hopeful that the poppies I saw last year will return.

    1. The show runs from 30 August to 9 September so my timing was good. I can’t imagine how they keep 300,000 flowers looking great for so long.
