St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney |
We attended our city church today and I was hoping the jacaranda would be in flower but was disappointed to find it isn't quite there yet. The service, on the other hand didn't disappoint. It was Reformation Sunday with the choir performing J.S. Bach's Cantata 79.
Reflection:
The cantata begins with this chorus - Psalm 84:11
"God, the Lord, is Sun and Shield
The Lord gives mercy, mercy and glory.
No good thing will our God withhold
from the Righteous, the Righteous."
How wonderful to have the opportunity to hear one of Bach's great Cantatas performed by the choir in the Cathedral. I was not aware it was Reformation Sunday, that was not mentioned in our Church this morning!
ReplyDeleteIt is not mentioned in other churches I attend either. I did a quick google for the background. Luther nailed the 95 theses to the church door on 31 October. So this date (in addition to Halloween) is celebrated as Reformation Day. Reformation Sunday is held on the last Sunday in October for its proximity to this.
DeleteMusic is an essential part of any worship service. Your photo definitely has a angle to it!
ReplyDeleteMusic whether a simple solo voice or a grand choir is special as is participating in congregational singing.
DeleteI like the architecture.
ReplyDeleteThe cathedral was designed by Edmund Blackett who seems to have been behind many of the grand sandstone buildings of the colonial era.
DeleteI like your composition. When it blooms the jacaranda will make this spot even more glorious.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I might not be back before it drops its flowers.
DeleteWhat a really lovely composition Joan Elizabeth, won't be long before the jacarsndas are in full bloom 🌼
ReplyDeleteI am glad you like the composition. It was just a case of look up and see how I can get the Cathedral and tree both in the shot. I too was pleased with the result.
