Old Stuff 16

Gulgong
The old gold town of Gulgong does a great job of keeping their shops true to the historic era.  The result is a bit like Soveriegn Hill at Ballarat but is a real functioning town rather than a theme park.  Empty shops are used to display museum items.

  1. It might be over-used words, but this is as well cute as awesome! Great that there really are functional shops in there!

    1. The town is very tidy these days - quite gentrified. The museum has recently received a grant to enable enhancement/expansion.

  5. It looks well maintained - and, as you mention, quite gentrified. I wonder if it looked as nice back in the day.

  6. We just finished watching the Netflix show about Dr. Blake who lived and worked in Ballarat. Fascinating. I'm glad this is a 'real, functioning town'!

    1. I enjoyed the Dr Blake mysteries. Today Ballarat is a vibrant regional city with lots of lovely buildings a legacy from the rich gold days.
