The old garden bed on "pear terrace" has been full of weeds ever since we came here - my plan was to demolish it and perhaps set up vege beds in a different part of the garden. This week I figured that wasn't going to happen any time soon so why not weed it and plant it out with seeds and seedlings. Perhaps in time we will have some produce.

Good luck with the vege bed Joan Elizabeth. I love the idea and have the space, to grow my own produce, but it's a continuous battle with bugs, so I take the lazy way out and visit the market 😉 Looking forward to seeing your veg beds!
ReplyDeleteLikewise. But I am giving it one more try. The previous owner razn a market garden from here for years so I know it is possible just not probable when I am the gardener😀
DeleteStart with something simple and have low expectations. If you succeed so much the better!
ReplyDeleteGreat advise Kay. I am giving cucumbers, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and radish a go because I have had some success with them in my mountain garden. But I am dealing with different conditions here ... much more sun and fruit fly. Most importantly we have to figure out a watering regime because we are not here a lot of the time and the summers are fierce. Expectations are definitely low.
DeleteWe also love to grow our own vegetables but have mixed success due to the constant battle with the cockatoos and other bugs and pests. I wish you luck with yours. At the moment we have planted lettuce, tomatoes and bok choy. Nothing can beat the taste of home grown tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteI am giving bok choy a go too because I have been told Asian greens are easy. Fingers crossed the cockatoos will leave is alone ... they generally do but I doubt the bugs will stay away. Fingers crossed.
DeleteGood luck and happy gardening. I love the fruit blossoming tree.
ReplyDeleteMe too. It should be pruned back but I don’t have the inclination or energy so am letting it grow into a shade tree.
DeleteGood for you Joan. The soil in it is probably just perfect after having a bit of a rest, it often happens that way... I'm sure you'll get some good vegies!
ReplyDeleteLove your trees too.
We could be lucky then. I like the trees better than the garden bed.
