When we were in the city this week I noticed rather odd planters representing Christmas trees. I think in time they might flower creating their own living decorations. The Christmas banners are up on the poles and I saw a gathering of people who looked like they were going so spread Christmas joy but disappointingly a closer look at their shirts revealed they were No Gas protesters.

Hi I just came across your blog when you commented on Africanaussie's blog. It sounds like you are originally a Queenslander and are living in NSW. I live on the Darling Downs where it is currently quite warm and in drought as usual. Fortunately we haven't had any fires near us but the situation is dire up north. Had a giggle about the No Gas protestors.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Chel. Yes you got it right - born and raised in Nanango, my hubby in Toowong Brisbane. We left Qld for Canberra and NSW after uni and have lived here over 40 years so slowly have become more accustomed and acclaimatised to here - which is alternating between the Blue Mountains and Kandos which is further West and where we will retire once we execute the move over a couple of years. Hard to believe but we are cold here right now because of all of the rain with those winds. But that is what looks bing in the mountains is like. Another year it could be bushfires at this time.
DeleteWe were shopping in Westfield, Penrith today. Lots of Christmas trees dotted throughout the Plaza.
ReplyDeleteOh I am such a grouch. I don’t like the busyness of Penrith mall so try to get in and out of there as fast as I can. Would you believe I was there yesterday and didn’t notice the Christmas trees.
DeleteI´m looking forward to see the "Christmas" trees in bloom!
ReplyDeleteGas prices... I am so glad I have no car no more!
I will check for blooms next time I am in the city. My lifestyle would be difficult without a car. But we bought a small on to drive around and only use the big one when towing.
DeleteWhat a great idea, living decorations 🌺 were they protesting against fracking Joan Elizabeth?
ReplyDeleteI am guessing it was a protest against fracking. I did not approach them as I am not in tune with the anti-everything activists.
DeleteIt's always a bit jarring to remember that Down Under it's summer when Christmas rolls around. Excellent shot, Joan!
ReplyDeleteI have a niece from Canada visiting us for Christmas - her first time encountering her Aussie heritage. I have been thinking how different our Christmas will be for her.
DeleteSunshine and blue skies for Christmas! It would seem very different to those of us in the northern hemisphere. I had my very first white Christmas last year. It started snowing as we walked on Christmas Eve and continued overnight. It's rarely more than a couple of inches and usually melts in a few days.
ReplyDeleteI experienced a white Christmas in Canada many years ago. It was magic. The different season certainly gives the Christmas in the northern hemisphere very different characteristics.
