Old Stuff 20

Mount Lindesay
We drove back from Brisbane to Casino through the lovely lush farmland, forests and mountains of the Scenic Rim.

I was surprised to see at the small town of Rathdowney an Axemans and Sawyers Club.  I am guessing it is people keeping the old skills of woodchopping alive.  But for me I prefer an electric log splitter to an axe.

  1. Fantastic view of Mount Lindesay. I've never had to split logs but an electric log splitter sounds like the best way to go 😊 Happy weekend Joan Elizabeth.

    1. If you have a wood fire then there is plenty of log splitting to be done. A pain but I do enjoy the fire.

    1. The hinterland in the Nsw/qld border is lovely. Didn’t like the coast road but I never do .... to much traffic near the coast.

  3. It looks like beautiful countryside. There was a lot of historic logging in our region and I've seen photos of two men at opposite ends of long, long saws that must be many feet long that they push and pull. The skill is demonstrated at our county fairs. Gas chainsaws are used today.

    1. We call those cross-cut saws. My Grandad and Dad used them to cut timber in the forest to supplement farm income. The saw was still hanging around in Dad's garage when he died but he had long ago migrated to a chainsaw by then (and had left the farm).

  4. I have travelled this road many, many times over the years and never tire of its beauty. You have been very fortunate that in the 2 weeks prior to your visit, we have had good falls of rain. It would have been a very brown drive otherwise.

    1. Yes the land all round was looking better because of that rain.
