We had a guest staying over the weekend and she loves honey so we decided to take her on a drive to the Beekeepers Inn which is halfway between Bathurst and Orange. There you can taste the different honeys and also get a nice meal.
It is surprising how different the honey tastes depending on the blossoms the bees have been gathering from. I settled on Yellowbox as my favourite, it is not a very strong flavour. Do you have a favourite honey flavour?
And there I always thought honey is honey, might look differrent, but that it really comes in different tastes - interesting.
ReplyDeleteMuch of the honey sold in supermarkets is a blend to keep consistency of taste I guess. But when you taste pure honey flavours are very distinct - some strong and some light.
DeleteWe buy honey from a local beekeeper who moves his hives around due to the drought. I don't usually eat honey but my hubby has it in his hot drinks so buys it in bulk as it is much cheaper than the 'honey' in the supermarket.
ReplyDeleteI mostly use it in hot drinks too - with juice from the near endless supply of lemons from my lemon tree. We also go for bulk honey.
DeleteLove a spoon of honey in my tea, there's a probiotic honey that's taken my fancy at the moment, but am happy to experiment 🐝
ReplyDeleteTrying tasting various varieties if you are willing to experiment.
DeleteI very rarely have honey. Occasionally with tea.
ReplyDeleteI do t drink tea so have no idea whether different varieties of honey make a difference.
DeleteThat's a really great idea being able to taste each variety. There is a big difference. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI especially disliked the Sydney Blue Gum which of course is the one our guest thought was delicious.
DeleteI haven't got a favourite honey, just buy the one from the supermarket. I have tried yellow box though and quite like it. We don't eat much honey and I generally find when I get it out of the pantry, it has candied in the jar.
ReplyDeleteJust pop it in the microwave for a bit and it will uncandy. Yellow box is very mild pretty much like a supermarket blend.
DeleteClover is the most common honey around here but that's a a commercial version. More rare but very nice is our local lavender honey.
ReplyDeleteLavender honey. That sounds interesting.
