Old Stuff 27


Because we are currently living in two houses I had to dig out an old dinner set.  This one screams of the 1970s when we were married.

The blood plums are now being harvested at Rose Orchard Haus - buckets and buckets of them.  There are also peaches ripening but the fruit fly seem to have attacked most of them.  I think I might be glad because I am getting overwhelmed with fruit though my husband is enjoying eating them.

    1. They were delicious but produced a bit too much gas so had to go steady. Make plum jam with some of them today.

  3. Yes the plate is definitely saying 1970's. Such an iconic era. I was married in the 1970's and had my children in that decade. I have similar plates amongst my wedding presents!

    1. Yep this dinner set was a wedding present. Did plenty of good service before I considered it too dated to be used any more.

  4. Plum jam sounds absolutely yummy.. yes too much fruit can have unfortunate consequences 😊 The plate is so retro 😉

    1. I am going to try the jam on my toast this morning. I am generally not a big fan of plum jam but I might be persuaded to change my mind.

    1. They are an interesting fruit. If they are not ripe can be quite sour around the stone. But a fully ripe plum is usually sweet and delicious.

  6. One of my friends cans lots of her fruit and vegetables. It's a great way to use all that produce but takes more enthusiasm and energy than I'm willing to expend.

    1. Processing the fruit is time consuming. I opt for freezing because it is less work and this year some jam. I will be glad to have a rest when the fruit season is over. Even if I do nothing with them I have to rake up the fallen fruit so might as well make the best of it.

  7. My hubby buys plums from the fruit shop but they go from being as hard as rocks to going rotten very quickly. He gets really quite disappointed with them.

    1. I let mine ripen in a cool dark place (a storage cupboard) then once ripe pop them in the fridge and they keep for a week or so. Trouble is there is only so much room in the fridge so the rest have to be processed - I do enjoy the fruits of my labour right through the winter which is nice. Stewed plums with warm rice cream - yum.

    Those plums look delicious. I don't think I could ever get overwhelmed with stone fruit. :-)

    1. Try having 5 mature trees each producing a full crop and you might! And that is just the stone fruit.
