We were on the veranda watching the languid gliding of the fish, blue damselflies darting from flower to flower, frogs bopping (their spawn floating among the aquatic weeds), skinks scurrying on the rocks then with a splash a skink decides to go for a swim -- the fish hide, the damselflies scatter and the frogs go silent.

Sounds very peaceful.
ReplyDeletePeaceful and relatively cool. I too was a bit surprised by the skink splashing into the pond.
DeleteBest "entertainment" there is!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I do find the fish entertaining. When we come home from being out I almost always run the railing of the verandah to check the pond and see which ones are showing themselves. I have to clean out the aquatic weed if I want to see more of them ... and that is a chore for a cooler day.
DeleteA colourful pair of fish!
ReplyDeleteThere is a funny story about the colour of the fish. Each year we would put 5 gold coloured fish in the pond and birds or something ate them because soon there were none. So one year my husband bought pale fish that birds would not see. Problem was we couldn’t see them either! So the next year we put in some inexpensive tiny fish and they bred with the pale fish and now we have lots of fish of different sizes and colours.
DeleteWhat a lovely way to while away some time Joan Elizabeth. The skink was trying to shake things up a bit 😉
ReplyDeleteBetter a skunk shaking things up than a snake. Some years ago on a similar warm day a red bellied black snake slipped out from beneath the verandah where we were sitting and explored the edges of the pond before wriggling off to visit the neighbours.
