Old Stuff 29

@ Blast Furnace Park, Lithgow

While we were in Lithgow I suggested we go to the old Blast Furnace ruins where I had a delightful photoshoot back in 2010.  How disappointing to find that in the intervening years it has been 'made safe' and the old 'wild and mysterious' has gone.

  1. That came as a bit of a shock as I also remember it being in its original dilapidated state. I guess it is a much safer place to visit now. The ruins still look amazing. I'd certainly like to revisit.

    1. Definitely give it a go. Take a picnic as there are tables under the trees. I didn’t stay long to really explore as it was a super hot day and I was just chasing a photo to round out my week. But when I got there I went into shock.

  2. Oh wow that does look different! I agree it was definitely more photogenic back then but I'm wondering if these measures have been taken more to preserve the ruins than the visitors, probably both ✨

    1. I think both. The spot has become increasingly popular. I saw in the paper that they ran a light show on the ruins this year.

  3. I imagine at some point the lawyers got involved too.

  4. Love that top shot and how your eye is immediately drawn through the window.

A bit sad to see the additions, but if it's to preserve the site, I guess there was no alternative.

    1. Yes I guess there is no good in between for this type of thing. I am just glad I got there earlier.

  5. In the U.S. it would have been considered an "attractive nuisance" and some idiot would do something stupid, get hurt, and sue. There go the photo ops.

    1. Fortunately our society is not quite at litigious but we are fast catching up as people blame others for their own silliness.

  6. It's been certainly cleaned up since I was there last, also around 10 years ago.

    1. I thought you would be interested in this post as it was your photos from about 10 years ago that led me to these ruins in the first place.
