Autumn Flowers

Belladonna lilies @ Burnbrae
Before the trees turn on their autumn colour the flowers announce the arrival of the new season starting with belladonna lilies and ginger flowers. Out at Rose Orchard Haus other flowers welcome autumn as well - crocus and spider lilies are popping up all over the place, joining the marigolds and the last of the roses for the season.

    1. I have had ginger flowers in a vase in my hallway for a couple of weeks, the fragrance is so lovely. Sadly the flowers are all but done now.

My Mum loved her couple of spider lilies. She would have been beside herself with delight to see the huge number in flower in this garden.

    1. Surprising as well as pretty to me. I haven't see so may yellow crocus in one spot until I got this garden. Lots more have flowered in that garden bed since I took that photo and lots more popping up in other garden beds as well.

    1. Belladonnas have the added bonus of lovely fragrance and thrive without fuss. I have inherited a garden were the gardener knew how to create all year round colour using all sorts of different plants.

  6. Interesting! Crocus are early spring flowers here and most of our lilies bloom in early summer.

    1. I thought crocus were early spring flowers too, they certainly are in Burnbrae garden - but those are purple. This is a different variety, in fact there are to different types of crocus that flower in March at Rose Orchard Haus. I checked the web and their are spring and autumn flowering varieties. I have learnt from Rose Orchard Haus garden that different types of lilies flower at different times throughout the year too.
