I went up to the local lookout to show you a view across the town and the avenue of poplars. Unfortunately, trees are beginning to obscure the view. Nonetheless you can see we are a small town in a beautiful natural setting.
A poem for today:
Binsey Poplars by Gerard Manly Hopkins
So much flatter than I was expecting.
ReplyDeleteWe are in tableland country i.e. on the slopes of the ranges. Kandos is nestled in a valley below cliffs on the Eastern side i.e the direction this image is facing. There are other mountains out in the other directions.
DeleteOh wow, you can really see how long the avenue of poplars is.. how wonderful to drive along there. Super viewpoint Joan Elizabeth ✨
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely avenue of poplars but we actually rarely drive that way, we usually come into Kandos via a back road which is more direct for us. I made a special trip coming via this direction to take these photos.
DeleteA small town in a pretty setting. How many live there?
ReplyDeleteAround 1000 people. As the town history website says ... forty streets, no traffic lights or roundabouts, hardly two houses the same. Today Kandos is a town of idiosyncratic delights.
DeleteThe views from Kandos are really lovely in all directions.
