Here we go, we are heading along the main street Angus Avenue with the mountain behind us.
At this end of the street there are houses. As in most of Kandos they are modest and well kept older homes on big blocks, nearly every one with neatly mowed lawn. I would despair of keeping up appearances at my place but for our neighbour keeping our footpath trim with his ride on mower.
As several have commented there are very few cars so there is no traffic noise but there is what we call the "Kandos hum" -- the sound of lawn mowers.
Love the idea of a ride on lawn mower Joan Elizabeth, but somehow I think it might not be safe for my garden 😀 I love the older well kept houses so much more than the McMansions that are spreading everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI like older homes too. I would love a ride on to tackle my very large lawn but it is terraced so would require me to set up ramps to get from one terrace to another so seems like too much trouble at the moment.
DeleteI am wondering why it would not be safe in your garden. I know a ride on was not safe in my mountain garden because there are slopes that are too steep.
The architecture wouldn't be out of place here.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting.
DeleteWe've got a similar hum here right now but it's all riding mowers as people have larger pieces of land in my neighborhood. My husband is spending an hour a week on ours right now. Too bad we can't invite Grace over for a spin.
ReplyDeleteRiding mowers are such bliss when there is a big lawn. I have a very old one that I use at our Clandulla block and getting around on it is just about as much fun as I used to have as a kid riding motor bikes around the back yard.
DeleteBut sadly, as explained to Grace above, it is not a good proposition for my other two gardens.
You made me smile with the "Kandos hum".
ReplyDeleteReminds me how my Mum used to mow our little garden.
I used to think mowing was a man's job. But I waited and waited and the grass grew longer and longer. Then one day I asked myself, how hard can it be to start a machine and push it around and forever after it has been my job. The trouble is hubby and I have different tolerance to what is "too long". I have been discovering that people at Kandos think even my standard is too long!
DeleteDo you have a house there yet?
ReplyDeleteYes we do, a house on the mountain slope. We are splitting our time between Kandos and the Mountains at the moment as we finalise things at both ends but will be moving entirely to Kandos in a year or two.
