This is the view looking North from the deck of our Kandos home. Recently my eye has been caught by the yellow poplar burning like a flame against the mountain backdrop. This gave me an idea, to go for a Sunday drive seeking out more of this beautiful autumn colour.
We "commute" regularly between our homes in the Blue Mountains and Kandos. Poplars colour up beautifully west of the Blue Mountains whereas in the mountains they just drop their leaves without putting on an Autumn display. So for our Gold seeking drive we headed further west from Kandos to the regional cities of Bathurst and Orange. Over the next week I will show you what we found.
We were in the upper Blue Mountains today and I noticed most of the autumn leaves have now almost finished whereas in the lower Mountains, where we live, a lot of autumn colour is now at its peak. Our Liquidambar tree is now starting to put on a lovely red display.
ReplyDeleteOur mountain garden is just beginning to colour up. If things run to normal schedule it will be another week before there is a good display of colour.
DeleteThe liquidambers in the park over the road colour up early in autumn and are just about done. The funny thing is that in my garden the huge liquidamber down the back of the garden is always the last tree to change, will be a couple more weeks before it does its thing.
That is a good view.
ReplyDeleteYes it is a nice view. There are two times of year I particularly notice it ... when the poplar is in colour and when the mandarins are ripe.
DeleteIt´s 24 years ago now that we were in the Blue Mountains. I can´t believe how time flies and I thank you for refreshing my memory.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have great memories of this part of the world.
DeleteOh, yes, so many! I am truly thankful.
DeleteWhat a spectacular view you have Joan Elizabeth. Doesn't the autumn colour depend on the weather, if there is a longish chilly period the trees colour up quicker than if it stays warmer. I'm probably wrong about that 😉
ReplyDeleteI looked it up once and it has to do with length of day, chill and dampness. So if it is cold and dry we can expect good colour.
DeleteYou have a nice, lush view.
ReplyDeleteYes - looks across our garden and neighbours garden. A mix of native trees and fruit trees.
