Life in the Village 14 - Transport and Pubs

Down at the end of the main street you pass by a mechanics shop, the Kandos Hotel, the Men's Shed, the rotunda park and reach the railway station. The rail line is now only used for occasional historic tourist trains.  Over the railway line is the rather attractive Railway Hotel.

That's it for this tour of our main street where most of the action happens.  Sometime in the future I will explore the other things like the museum which are off the main street.

  1. The Hotel looks quite big. What a shame the trains don't run anymore.

    1. It is a shame but we have to be realistic. TrainLink still runs a daily bus service that connects to Lithgow so we can't complain.

  2. The railway station reminds me of the station I cycled to during my high school days to catch the train for the 30 minute journey to Nambour. I just love the hotel. So well looked after and without beer signs all over it.

    1. Old railway stations do have a lovely sense of history. I think it might be operating as a bed and breakfast rather than as a hotel.

  3. Yes, the rail line does look quite under used. The hotel is impressive!

  4. The rail station fires my imagination. It looks like it leads away to a great journey. The hotel, also, is a beauty. You've chosen a fine place to live.

    1. There was a cafe at the railway some years ago. When I was sitting there reading the local tourist paper I got the idea of visiting 100 towns in the region which I blogged here http://100towns.blogspot.com/. That was a wonderful blog project, certainly fired my imagination.

  5. Country pubs are so character filled... both inside and out.

    1. As my husband and I a non-drinkers it is rare for us to check inside but I have been photographing Royal Hotels from the outside for years. http://myroyalhotels.blogspot.com/. I agree they all have so much character.

  6. The station reminds me of my hometown. So.... unused. I didn´t even try to get in last time (6 weeks ago?).
The name of the beautiful hotel would stop me from booking - I´d expect LOUD noises from trains...
