Up the hill from the houses is Aunt Betty's Tea Shop which I have shown earlier in this blog. Aunt Betty went out of business ages ago, but I am glad the ghost signs remain. The first commercial premises we find is Ad Hoc Furniture where Brett Nutting makes lovely pieces from recycled materials. Below there's a peep through the shop window.
What type of furnishings do you prefer ... old with stories to tell, beautiful new pieces or perhaps something like these which are old made new?
I would no doubt stop in and have a look inside.

DeleteI think it's hard for a tea shop to survive, which is a shame.
ReplyDeleteI have a combination of old and new in my house, though most of it is modern. I have a few (refinished) pieces from the 50s and 60s that have clean lines and look contemporary.
Cafes do seem to open and close quite quickly. 50s and 60s items do look contemporary again - a bit to contemporary for my country style decor which is a mix of old and new.
DeleteOld and new would probably be my pick. Old furniture was built to last that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteYeh built to last. I sleep in an iron bed that belonged to my grandparents. It's is over 100 years old. I do however have a modern mattress. Imagine sleeping on one of those old coir or capok mattresses which were still hanging around when I was a kid.
