Life in the Village 8 - Artists

Kandos was an industrial town but the cement works and mines have closed in recent years.  So now what?

Real estate gets cheaper and that encourages people on less assured incomes to move in -- the artistic community (how nice is that).  Art Box Gallery and Shop opened recently.  I miss the days when I was flush with money and often explored galleries with the possibility of purchasing something to loves for years to come.

Here's a peep through the window of Art Box Gallery.  Kandos also stages Cementa a bi-annual contemporary arts festival which will be held in November this year.

    1. I have seen some towns in the US almost completely taken over by artists and hence becoming a tourist attraction. I guess our towns would hope for some of that revival.

  2. How nice to have a place like Art Box, I hope they get lots of support from the community. Gosh what a pain about your caravan Joan Elizabeth, is it repairable?

    1. Yes repairable, only minor damage but these things take a while to get fixed with insurance assessment and waiting for parts from suppliers etc.

  3. The place certainly seems welcoming.

  4. There is a wonderful town about an hour from us, Port Townsend, that has gone through a couple of incarnations and has survived partly because of an influx of artists. I love to visit there. (I'm going to be away for about a week & may not be commenting regularly but have posts scheduled for the entire time.)

    1. This seems to be the way for small town rejuvenation if it is blessed with being not too far from cities and in nice surrounds. Enjoy your break.

  5. It is exciting to enter art galleries and craft shops. See so much you would like to take home and then reality takes over, when the price is discovered. One knows that for the hours of work, the price is corrct.

    1. I agree, the price it right but sadly unaffordable at this time of my life.
