Vale Les Murray

I was hanging out at the State Library waiting for my husband to finish at the doctors and discovered the Mitchell Reading Room was set up for the state memorial service of Australia's great poet Les Murray.  He will be missed.

A poem for today
So many wonderful poems, here is just one that I remember well Rainwater Tank

    1. It is a beautiful space. There are usually work tables where all of the seats are on this occasion.

    1. A perfect place for a memorial service for a top-notch poet. I doubt there would be many memorial services held here.

    1. I have never actually gone into that reading room. They have a modern extension now that I use regularly.

  5. Les Murray was one of my favourite poets. It is sad that he has now gone. I received his book "On Bunyah" a couple of Christmases ago and love reading his poems. I like his poem "Natal Grass" .

    1. I have "On Bunyah" too. I looked up "Natal Grass" in my big book of Les Murray poems. It is interesting - his powers of description are amazing. I have never heard of natal grass so looked that up too - was interested to discover it it the pretty reddish grass that I have been admiring along the roadside near Windermere Dam.
