Welome to Winter - At the block

I failed to get a bird shot again this week but I did capture an animal at our bush block - perhaps the increasing dry is bringing the kangaroos back in.

Despite the dry the winter flowering styphelia was there to greet me, our native plants are very hardy.

That's the end of the Welcome to Winter series, I will go off the air again for a while until I collect some more photos.

  1. This brings back sweet memories of Bowling Green Bay NP! A wallaby wanted food from me and as it´s not good I called hubby who filled his cuppa with water and the wallaby would not stop asking for more - hubby had coffee in it before. Guess that fella had a busy day ;-)
    Beautiful flowers, too!

  2. A good photo of a kangaroo and the Styphelia tubiflora looks great. They are also known as Red five-corner and they do well in poor sandy soils.

    1. Our soil tends to be clay so they must do OK there too as this is a natural plant, i.e. not one that has been planted by human hands.

  3. It does look very dry for winter... not much of a green tinge at all sadly.

    1. Our major rainfall is in the summer months so it is usually very dry looking at winter time. However, Clandulla seems to be in a type of rain shadow, it typically doesn't get as much rain as Kandos which is only 7 kms away. The lawns of Kandos still have some green showing (those that don't die off with the frost like most of the lawn in my garden).

  4. Our wildflowers can survive the driest of weather. Surely rain must be on the way ✨

    1. It think rain will probably wait until spring. If there is spring rainfall the wildflowers on the block do well but haven't for the past couple of years.

    1. I am thrilled to have all sorts of different plants on the block, all planted by nature. The kangaroo was a surprise, lately it has been a flock of goats in that paddock.
