Yarrabandai - closed

Between Parkes and Condobolin is the locality of Yarrabandai.  I'm surprised that there were ever enough people to support a shop.

  1. Hard to imagine there would ever be a need for a corner shop in this place!

    1. There is a grain silo there and apparently there was a huge shearing shed in the vicinity. But these workers would have been seasonal so I still can't figure it out.

  2. I miss the old corner stores. However our population is a tad bigger than in that old 'town' 😄

    1. I checked and the population here (i.e. in the town and immediate district) was 150 in the 1950s. It subsequently shrunk so small there town got dropped as an entity on the statistics.

    1. The roads around here would all have been dirt and slow travelling in the past. I guess among other things it was the bitumen that caused this place and others to shut.

  4. It looks like a place that time has left behind.

    1. I think it is interesting when that happens - leave relics to show us how things once were.

  5. As Kay says, it looks like a place that time forgot. So sad that it's been left to rack and ruin.
