A Surprise

While my husband was visiting a medical specialist in Katoomba I decided to take a walk to check out the Morris and Sons wool and needlework shop which is at the end of town I rarely visit.

On the way this attractive mural caught my eye.  I was surprised to find there is a whole laneway of excellent quality murals.  I will be back to show you more.

Participating in Colourfulworld's Monday Mural.

A poem for today
Figures in a Paddock by John Kinsella.  I am fond of Kinsella's poetry.

  1. Yay for street art! Glad Blue Mountains council have commissioned such a work. It's not just for the inner city.

    1. I too am glad. I know a lot of country towns have murals but they tend to be a bit "ordinary". The work in this laneway is very good to my untrained eyes.

    1. I did a bit more digging and have found this mural was done by acclaimed Melbourne artist Adnate. The work is based on a local Wagana Dancer. The Wagana Dancers are an aboriginal dance group who perform traditional and contemporary dances inspired by the beautiful Blue Mountains and NSW Central West country.

  6. I was going to say it looked like a mural from Adnate, just his style, but reading the other comments it confirmed it.
Great find Joan, thanks for participating.

    1. I am not accustomed to studying street art so there is no chance I would recognise the work of a particular artist. I am glad I was able to identifying who did it.

    1. Yes you must go check them out. You will see this one on a wall in Waratah Street (turn left when going down Katoomba Street). You will discover lots more in the laneway near this mural.
