Monkey's Mask

No it's not a monkey, it's a possum - surprisingly out and about during the daytime.  The title of today's post is based on my book for this week.

A book I have read recently
The Monkey's Mask by Dorothy Porter.  I ordered it from the library just because it was the next on the Australian book list, hence it came as a surprise to discover it was an Australian erotic lesbian murder mystery verse novel.  Australian was the only thing in that description that resonated with me.  Nonetheless, it was short so I dipped in and found it an enjoyable read finished in one sitting.  I might try another verse novel one day.

  1. Sounds a bit strange, but then... go through all genres, right.
I remember an American lady in Conway NP trying to "feed" an possum and then screaming that it had claws and bites.
    There is always the cliché!

    1. I would not be game enough to handle one, though it is has been a bit of a problem the few times one got into the house. Trying to shoo it out with a broom didn't work, it jumped and climbed everywhere and peed all over the place. I have found it is smarter to feed it and thus gently encourage it to the door or window.

    2. That really does not sound "nice and sweet" indeed!

  2. Such a sweet little face it has Joan Elizabeth, sounds a bit of a nuisance though ✨

    1. I adore them just so long as they stay out of our floorspace and heating ducts - however we have not always been successful with this.

  3. Quite a critter.

I read that one years ago. It was odd.

  4. I saw one of our resident possums out during the day a while back. It was quite strange. Usually they jump all over my car in the shed at night. Grrr!

    1. I know that problem. We solved it by not parking our cars in the garage!

  5. Gorgeous image.
On a sad note, I've never seen them in our area, yet this week 2 have been dead on the road.

    1. Dead on the road. I have not seen that. I thought they are too agile and smart to be caught that way.

  6. They often run across our roof at night. They're quite noisy!

    1. Yes that is a familar sound here too. Possums on the tin roof ... thump thump thump and they hiss at each other in the trees too.

  7. I don't think I'd care to have one of those in my house. Ours stay pretty well hidden.
