Wanting

I spotted this cute little street library near the eye hospital.

A book I have been reading recently
I borrowed from our local library the book Wanting by Richard Flanagan - another one from the Australian list. I found it a bit hard going, the characters just didn't engage me.  Anyway, I decided to give it one last chance and packed it in my handbag to read on the train when we went down for Sydney for some pre-op tests.

I got to the station and found the book wasn't in my handbag.  I got home and it wasn't on the table. I searched the house, searched the car, even looked in the fridge!  In the end I decided I was just going to have to pay the fine.

I checked the library website tonight and find it is no longer signed out to me. I must have dropped it and some kind person has returned it to the library ... hooray.  I won't be reborrowing it.

  2. That's a great lost book story. I'm currently on the hunt for a manual I had for our dishwasher. I rarely misplace such things and this one is nowhere to be found.

    1. I wish I could say I rarely misplace things. Fortunately my husband is pretty good at finding them for me.

  3. My daughter took a library book to a camp once and some bright sparks living nearby decided to take some of the campers's bags which they then burnt or buried. Of course they took the library book which was buried so I had to pay for a new one as she was at school and had no money :-(

    1. Ugh. There is nothing worse than having to pay for a book that is no longer around. That is what I was steeling myself for.

    1. I guess we are hoping that we've had a bit of a mind wobble and put in in the fridge. I think I have only ever found the lost item there once.
