One of the delights of living in the country is the variety of animals we get as neighbours.
At Christmas time I was surprised to find this brown hen in our garden at Rose Orchard Haus. She had flown over the fence and would not be persuaded to go back home so stayed for a couple of weeks before choosing to go on another adventure - we don't know where.
This week I heard a rooster crow and looked over the fence to find this new neighbour along with a couple of ducks. Those feather "boots" must make walking difficult.
And here's the other neighbour I love to watch from my kitchen window. I believe her name is Francesca.
And all of these reminded me of the various neighbours at bush block at Whistlers Rest I have shown over the years. I had fun digging through the archive to find some of them.
An assortment of cattle.
A pony
Sheep and goats

And occasional native animals.
That's quite an assortment of critters. I've never seen a rooster so colorful, or with feathered feet. He's quite exotic. We have some animals in our neighborhood but none (except deer) that I'm likely to see out my kitchen window. Francesca looks sweet.
ReplyDeleteI guess you seeing a deer from your kitchen window is similar to me seeing a kangaroo. I do occasionally, they coming into the neighbour's yard but not ours.
DeleteOh my gosh Joan Elizabeth, you make me want to move to the country! Love your 'neighbours'. I'm hankering for a home with a view. The rooster looks like he is wearing designer shoes 😉
ReplyDeleteDesigner shoes, I like that. As crazy as some of the designer fashions we see on the catwalk.
DeleteI love all of them! Obviously you do too, we once had a hen drop in and she stayed for a few years. Great photos xx
ReplyDeleteI thought this one might be a long term inhabitant but I glad she went. With a half acre of land for her to explore why did she think my garden paths were the perfect place to poop?
DeleteWhat interesting neighbours you have! Love the photo of the hen. I am particularly taken with her attitude. So much so that I might even be inspired to put brush to paper.
ReplyDeleteYou paint as well as write! I am envious.
DeleteThat is definitely an assortment. We don't have such interesting animals here in town.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It is just cats and dogs at our Blue Mountains home. Ooops I forgot the possums. I wish they would move on like the little brown hen did.
DeleteWhat a great assortment of neighbours! Francesca is beautiful. Those feathered feet on the rooster are certainly interesting.
ReplyDeleteFortunately both Francesca and the rooster have quiet voices. As do the doves caged in another neighbour's yard. My husband complains about a much noisier rooster further down the street.
DeleteThey are the best kind of neighbours to have.
ReplyDeleteAll of our neighbours are nice, even the human kind.
DeleteThose are good neighbours.
