It's showtime

Today I am participating in the City Daily Photo Theme Day on Municipal Buildings

Most country shires are gone, having been amalgamated, Rylstone is now part of Mid-Western Regional Council.

But a couple of doors down the street the annual agricultural show continues, last weekend it was its 82 year.

With the drought and fires it's been a tough year for the farming community but recent rain put a smile on everyone's face. In the pavilion there were the usual crops, flowers, art, craft, fleeces and more.

Show day is a day for celebrating all things country by pulling on your best cowboy boots and hat.

Out in the show ring the horse riding entertains and the wood chips fly.

The kids head down to side show alley and the big boys also have their toys.

It's a great day for hanging around and watching. This year we were joined by personnel from the Australia and Indonesian defence forces who've been helping with the rebuilding effort after the bush fires.

Long may the show continue!

  1. I like your little Shire Hall. It's classic but not too full of itself or pretentious, as some are.
Your annual agricultural show looks very similar to our county fair (held in August) all the way down to a logging show. (I hope your defence forces are treated like the heroes they are.)

    1. It is interesting the different names for similar things. Country fair = the show,
      logging show = woodchopping.

  2. I like the look of those local Agricultural shows. I was brought up in Sydney suburbia and have never been to one of those shows, only the Royal Easter Show in Sydney (which is now held in Olympic Park). One day I hope to get to one.

    1. The local shows are pretty much a mini version of the Easter Show. The main difference is you keep on bumping into people you know.

  3. Thank heavens for that rain Joan Elizabeth, it really did save the day in so many ways. Lovely to see the agricultural show proceeding as usual. Excellent choice for the theme ✨

    1. Oh yes the rain is so lovely and we have had more good falls last week. As we drive around the countryside most of the dams are now close to full.

  4. Love the door on your building and enjoyed the pictures from the festival... especially the one with the horse and ferris wheel!

    1. The photo pleased me too because I got two show icons into the same shot.

    1. Thanks Sandra. I of course took many more photos (most of them horrible) but with a bit of judicious cropping got these together to build the story.

    1. The building is a little odd I think with those columns with a brick building but it is nonetheless attractive.

  7. All in all a good day out. Interesting to note the Indonesians are helping out.

    1. Yes a fun day. I understand that their were troops from some of the island nations and PNG helping out elsewhere. Here there is currently a group of farmers from WA and NZ helping out and BlazeAid were here before that. It is simply wonderful the support being offered.
