Counting

It's perhaps an odd habit but I like to count things. I don't know if my sister usually counts but I do know she has been counting lately too.

So what have we been counting?

I have been out in the garden at Burnbrae which is as its spring best at this time of year. Remember the big pile of mulch from the felled weed tree. Well I have been counting how many shovels of mulch it takes to fill the wheelbarrow (30) and how many wheelbarrow loads it takes to mulch the garden bed (lost count). I am very pleased with the tidy result.

Later in the week at Rose Orchard Haus garden I was thrilled to count a dozen tulips all in flower at the same time like a mini floriade.  They have never done that for me before.

As for my sister, she has been in Queensland counting down 14 days of self-paid hotel quarantine to get home after spending most of the year in Victoria. She was released today - hooray.

  1. Both gardens look so pretty Joan Elizabeth, the blossom trees are stunning at this time of the year, the tulips so lovely grouped together. Good news about your sister, will be so good when travel is back to normal ✨

    1. Burnbrae garden is particularly lovely at blossom time because most of the trees all flower at the same time. That is not the case at Rose Orchard Haus even though there are more blossom trees their flowering is in drive and drabs.

    1. These were planted by the previous owner and it is our first year here without drought so still some surprises in the garden.

  3. Lovely photos! It's so nice to see a spring garden as ours slowly settle into autumn.
That's a lot of shoveling. It looks great but I know how tiring that can get.

    1. Autumn is lovely too. I have spread the shoveling over quite a long time so not too bad. It is good to have the strength to do it.

  4. The tulips are lovely. I have never been able to grow tulips here in Winmalee. I'm pleased to hear your sister is able to get home now. It must have been an awful time for her. The mulch certainly makes the garden look neat and tidy. Good result!

    1. I have not had much success with tulips in Lawson either. It is just too much to have to lift them so get one or two years at most out of the bulbs.

  5. I can relate to your counting, simply because our neighbour does it all the time. So glad your sister has been able to return to her home. The final two weeks would have been the hardest in isolation. Your spring gardens are a delight, especially the equisite tulips!

  6. I can well imagine your sister counting the days to get out of quarantine. Spending 14 days in a hotel room would drive me batty especially if the windows didn't open and you could get fresh air. On the news it said that a lot of people aren't paying their hotel bill 😏

    1. She said the hotel was comfortable, the food nice and the police escorts kind. She as able to get one or two 20 minute sessions a day out in fresh air. After the difficult time she experienced for various reasons in Melbourne she was ready for a rest. She also had plenty of family and friends contacting her via phone to keep up her spirits. She was nonetheless glad for her freedom. I feel very sorry for people who are ill, grieving or worried over loved ones when in quarantine especially when the lack of exemptions seem arbitrary and cruel.
