Excavating

For the past several days I have been excavating some stone steps at Burnbrae garden.

They had become overgrown by pineapple sage on one side and on the other side I "temporarily"  dumped some mulch 6 years ago! Moving the mulch (now compost) is a big job especially as it is now riddled with tree roots.  Plenty of worms there too.

It has been a delightful spring.  Gorgeous green, wet and warm with enough cool weather to get lots of jobs done and bid winter a gentle goodbye without having to order in another load of firewood. The garden is looking good with the Acanthus currently in flower.

Summer starts this week so the hydrangeas are now beginning to make an appearance. It's been a scorcher today with a very strong hot wind blowing. On the train coming back from the city this afternoon we saw the smoke and beginnings of a bushfire which is still burning but "being controlled".  I hope this is not the start of another horror season. The wind is now blowing cool and not as strong which is a blessing.

    1. Yes I am pleased the hard work is paying off. Until today there were azaleas in flower on the bank behind the car too but the hot wind this weekend made all the flowers wilt.

  2. The steps look good after being excavated Joan Elizabeth ✨Yes summer is just around the corner, must say I'm not looking forward to it, not a fan of the heat, although certain flowers thrive in the heat and the garden can look colourful. We're bound to have some summer fires, let's pray they can be contained this year.

    1. Fortunately there were only two days of heat. It rained last night and now it is cool again.

  3. It is so hot here in SE Qld at the moment. I think I will move to Tassie or NZ or England 😁

    1. Here in the mountains it can be like furnace one day and like Tassie/NZ/England the next. It’s been almost cold today.

  4. Good looking, all of it! Sending over some cool temps in exchange if you like (and it would be possible).

    1. It's getting better and better with constant attention but unfortunately doesn't stay that way for long when I turn my back on it. The green is lovely but the constant mowing is not.

  6. The steps look good. I love garden steps, but nowadays need a rail to negotiate them safely. Our blue hydrangeas are also in full bloom. I do like the pink ones, but our soil hasn't got the right Ph in it to encourage pink.

  7. It must have been slow hard work reclaiming the steps, but very rewarding. They are looking very grand. Your garden and weather beckons me.
