Lots of water

 The rain is back!

This photo of Windemere Dam was taken a week or so ago when the sun was shining.  It was the first time in months that we had driven from Kandos to Mudgee.  The interesting thing about this dam is that is is currently only 60% full, one of the few WaterNSW dams that is not right up to the brim at 100% because water is released downstream on a regular basis.

Below is a photo I took from the train between Penrith and the Sydney city today. With heavy rains, the dams overflowing and water logged land, low lying areas are flooding again.

As Hanrahan said after the drought:

And every creek a banker ran,
  And dams filled overtop;
"We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan,
  "If this rain doesn't stop."

  1. I love that poem, but it is awful to see this flooding again. I have just read where in the Newcastle area they are also experiencing 130 km / hour winds as well.

    1. I like the poem because it is a reminder that not every weather event is due to climate change. This type of thing has been going on for a very long time.

    1. We stayed dry. Our street was on Evacuation Warning but I understand it was because they thought the area might get cut off and have no power and water rather than any concern about the place getting flooded. It would be a bit rough if water reached the fourth floor.

  3. All that water and sadly so many people struggling with another flooding of homes and businesses. Thanks for sharing.

    1. I too feel sorry for the people who have just finished the clean up to have their homes drowned again. I also feel rather sorry for the local councils who have been working so hard to fix the landslips and pot holes only to have it happen all over again. The Blue Mountains train line has had another major landslip and will be closed for a month or so.

  4. Poor NSW has been getting too much rain and flooding. Queenslanders are still suffering hardships after our last floods. It takes forever to recover. Sad sad times.

    1. I think we are all fed up with the craziness of the past few years. Maybe next year will be better.
