Summer Time

Summer has arrived at last and the endless rain of recent years seems to have stopped.  Now the grass is drying off and would not even need mowing except for the dandelions that keep coming up.

The vegetable garden is getting into swing and fruit too.  There are also these onion things left by the previous owner which I don't harvest but leave grow because I like the flowers.

What is happening in your garden?

  1. My little garden is overgrown and out of control. We were sick over Christmas and were not able to get outside to do any gardening. I have a huge crop of parsley, far too much for our needs and I will have to cut it back. I have sown a little packet of native flower seeds in a container and some are about to flower.

    1. Parsley is a total weed in my garden. I have enjoyed seeing the native flowers in your instagram. I don't seem to have much success with those mixed packet seeds (not that I have tried natives).

  2. Yes, it's great to have summer but ours here in Adelaide is very hot and some hot winds too, so my garden in my pergola which is mainly hydrangeas has been affected by the heat and the lovely flowers are now dried flowers. I think I will have to make a few changes to the plantings and put in more natives for next summer. Its a work in progress but I enjoy working out what works best now that we are not living in the foothills.

    1. New gardens are always a challenge and as you say fun.

  3. Our garden is getting dry again as the rain has eased off. There are fires not far from here now. We are going to have an early fire season apparently. There is a lot of fuel to burn. Chel

    1. We are expecting grass fires. I am surprised at how quickly the garden got dry after all that rain.

  4. I too love the flower heads of the onion plant. Two recent storms brought a couple of inches of rain and boosted the colour in our garden. Pockets of cottage garden, pots of colourful caladiums and flowering native shrubs bring joy each time I step outside.

    1. I had to look up what caladiums are. I see they are plants that I am familiar with from Queensland. They would not like the frosts here. The only natives I have in my garden are some grevilleas that I got cheap and they have disappointed me with tiny colourless blooms. I am glad yours are better.

  5. A lot of weeds that I haven't taken out. It's been so hot here.
