Old furnishings

Driving through Sofala this weekend I spotted this fence made from old bedheads and think it is delightful.

Mind you those bedheads are not so terribly old, I have a bed like that currently in use.  I know furnishings are like fashion with constant change but I mostly keep the old stuff because I like the memories invoked by old and eclectic things.

I am soon to get some sofas recovered because they are sturdy and comfortable.  Would you recover or buy new?

P.S. I have never had sofas reupholstered before, I hope I am happy with the result.

  1. I love the fence made out of the old iron bedheads, such a creative way to use the old single bedheads as not many beds are single these days! I am sure you will love your reupholstered sofa but it is difficult to know the finished result as we had our 50 year old dining chairs reupholstered and I found it hard choosing the fabric but in the end we are happy with them. I don't like throwing out the well made older furniture.

    1. Choosing the fabric. That has helped to put me off doing this job for years! The funny thing is that the actual choosing at the upholsterers took us just a few minutes.

  2. I have two comfortable sofa chairs which we bought new and have used for the last twenty five years and they now need re-upholstering. We have looked to replace them with new chairs, but cannot find any as comfy as these two. However, the cost of re-upholstering them is expensive and we hesitate to do it as you are never sure if the finished result will be worth it. Meanwhile, we continue to sit on them while we procrastinate.

    1. I've know all about the procrastination thing. So I went a looked around for new furniture. The trouble was nothing was both comfortable and the right size. The right size but uncomfortable would not do. It was that that tipped me over in the end. It will be a few more months before I find out if the finished result is good because there is a long wait time on getting it done.

  3. They make an interesting fence. They don't make things like they used to.

    1. Furniture today is like fast fashion. Keep it for a while the redecorate. It seems very wasteful.

  4. I'm sure you will be happy to have them recovered. Our dining table chairs are over 40 years old and I have recovered them myself 3 times.

    1. I have recovered dining chairs myself but doing a sofa seemed beyond my skill. My sofas are 20-30 years old so getting quite warn.

  5. Depends if the sofa springs are in good condition. If they are I would re-cover.
