A small problem

The citrus fruits and now sweet and juicy.  The only problem is that the mandarin tree, which is loaded, has very small fruit this year.  That means I have to peel and peel to get a decent glass of juice to drink. But it is worth the effort in the end. I think I need to prune the tree to see if I can do better next year.

Also in the photo is my very first rose for the season and some freesias and bluebells which are currently flowering.  I am getting very excited, the roses have lots and lots of buds so we should have a marvellous display in a few weeks.

  1. Beautiful rose and I hope it has a beautiful perfume too. Here in our retirement village we have some lovely climbing roses that are perfumed but our garden only has white floribunda which don't seem to have a perfume but I planted a bush rose last year which has now got a few buds so I'll have to wait and see. I hope your mandarins are sweet even if they are small. Have a good week.

    1. The mandarins are all sweet. I have about 30 rose bushes and only a few of them are perfumed. I have learn't to love them for their flowers and not bother sniffing them.

  2. My orange tree is in full bloom at the moment. We luckily got a really good crop over the winter.

    1. Our orange tree is flower too. But we have not begun harvesting the oranges yet as they have only just begun to get sweet and I have enough to deal with mandarins right now. All of the citrus has been late this year because we had an unusually warm start to winter.

  3. Our old mandarin tree is much too high but I don't want my hubby getting up on a ladder to prune it as he still thinks he is 21! We still have some lemons that have just ripened so I will make use of them. At the moment my hubby is filling up the fridge freezer with mulberries.

    1. I have a pole trimmer which I am trying to use to bring the canopy of the mandarin down a little as neither my hubby or I will climb a ladder any more. I have a tree full of lemons which are still ripening. Mulberries .... yum, we don't have any of those.

  4. Mandarins can be delicious. Our mandarin tree in Winmalee always had very bitter fruit. We have three rose bushes in our garden at present and they are just starting to bud. They are standard floribunda and not planted by us, but still very pretty. Not much perfume though, probably none, as I have not much sense of smell!

    1. Bitter fruit is not nice. I am glad to say ours is sweet. There are buds galore on our roses with just a few flowering. It will be another week or two for the grand show. I think any rose is pretty regardless of its fragrence.

    1. Things happen much later down here. For example, we will have jacaranda flower at Christmas time which is months later than you guys.

  6. That sure is a big harvest. Does it matter if they are small as long as they are juicy.

    1. That is a tiny, tiny fraction of the harvest. I have been picking this many each day for over a week and the tree is still loaded. The only problem with them being small is that I have to peel three times as many.
