Coming back from the shops in Penrith last week I was surprised to see this billow of smoke. It turned out to be a grass fire in the industrial estate, not buildings on fire.
It's was timely reminder we are in bushfire/grassfire season. There have been total fire bans for the past two days because of the high winds and continuing dry weather. This has had me over at our bush block for the past couple of days raking up the leaf litter from around the buildings. There is an astounding amount of it, so not yet done. With all those years of rain, bushfires were hardly as risk so I didn't clean up, now I have to.
The bushfires seem to be earlier this year, especially bad in Qld. Good that you weren't threatened by the one near you but its a warning isn't it that we have to be prepared. We have friends that had the bushfire come through their property in the Adelaide hills a few years ago and it was devastating for them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my post - it's been a few years since we stayed in the Quorn caravan park, some CP's upgrade with bouncing pillows etc. but then the price goes up.
When it is warm and dry like it is we do have to put in an effort to be prepared. My beef with the Quorn caravan park was that it was priced at the same price as the ones with jumping pillows but was actually very rough and ready. I think the price needs to match the facilities.
DeleteLooks scary, Joan. Looks like there's lots of fuel to burn this year. Not looking good.
ReplyDeleteAfter all those years of rain there will certainly be a lot of fuel in the untamed areas.
DeleteWe seemed to have had consistent high winds for weeks now. No wonder our firies are exhausted.
ReplyDeleteThe wind has been getting me down lately, it has died down now though.
