Fast Food not

Cafe Madeline, Leura

A trip to Leura is not complete without a stop at one of the many cafes.

Fast food chains are all but non existent in the Blue Mountains.  There is one MacDonalds in the lower mountains, no KFC, an occasional Subway and just about nothing else.  The idea is to keep more individual eating experiences in the mountains.  If you are in Katoomba and in need of your favourite fast food fix then you have to drive to the bordering cities of Penrith or Lithgow a 40-50 km (30 mile) drive.

  1. I don't think I have been to Cafe Madeline. I must check it out next time we are in Leura. It looks rather comfortable!

  2. It's nice that the smaller cafes can be allowed to flourish in that area :D)

    1. Cafes get to flourish all over the mountains. This is good because I am a cafe person.

  3. Why would one want a fast food fix with so many delightful coffee shops to choose from?

  4. A good cafe is so much more homey and the food is usually worth stopping for.

    1. This one has good coffee and a very rich hot chocolate. I don’t think I have actually tried the food. I like the meals in a couple of cafes a bit further up the road.

  5. Oh, sadly we just went to the lookout to see The Three Sisters (in 1999) - and smell the eucalyptus, see the "blue air". We slept in the car and had a muesli in the morning. And a cuppa. If there is a next time I´ll remember your post!

  6. Such a good idea Joan Elizabeth, good for cafes and restaurants in the area and definitely better for the digestion 😉

  7. Hopefully the council and residents can keep the fast food chains away forever! Meanwhile the Maccas at Lithgow makes a mint.
