At the State Library there is an unexpected sculpture on the window sill. It is Trim who is "Matthew Flinders intrepid cat who circumnavigated Australia with his master 1801 - 1803". The statue of Matthew Flinders is nearby.
A poem for today
The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear
I was captivated by the statue of Trim when I saw it last year. I think there is a book about him.
ReplyDeleteIt was a surprise the first time I noticed it.
DeleteOh I remember seeing Trim the last time we were in Sydney, not so easy to spot up there 😊
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw it was at nightime during a light display on Macquarie Street. For a brief moment I thought it was a real cat.
DeleteThat is a marvelous addition!
ReplyDeleteYes it is an unexpected and fun addition.
DeleteSuch a brave cat and cute dedication!
ReplyDeleteI agree brave, can you imagine being a cat at sea even if it isn't a pea green boat. I wonder if it found any mice in the hold.
DeleteWell spotted and a wonderful fact!
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought a cat would become famous. The cafe at the State Library is called Trim too.
DeleteI love that sculpture. His placement is so true to character and such a whimsical piece of art. I just loved that they found him significant enough to attach him to the Matthew Flinders tribute
